Cropped, toned and captioned, each of these photos tells a variety of narratives. Newsworthy in their own ways, I have learned not only the importance of good lighting, clean compositions and special moments, but also the nature of capturing diverse and inclusive faces, places and stories.

Nate Mitchell, a 45-year-old former musician from Athens band Nate & the Nightmares and originally from Manchester, New Hampshire. Mitchell has worked at Wuxtry Records, the oldest continuously operating record store in Georgia since 1976, for 11 years. Mitchell describes and gently holds his favorite 1998 record “In the Airplane Over the Sea" by Athens rock band Neutral Milk Hotel, which was the sole album that prompted his move to Athens at 21 years old. Retired couple Karen and Ron Lawson, both 76 years old, work their 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift sorting resident packages and mail across two buildings at The Mark Apartments in Athens, GA on Oct. 18, 2021.
